Thanks to the snow, delayed trains causing an unscheduled stop-over and a class in the room where I normally work, I've been relying on mobile devices and my laptop rather more than usual this past week or so. It is staggering how far we've come in the last 10 years; conducting your life and work whilst away from your desk isn't something that is simply 'possible' any more. It's easy. It's straightforward. It's productive. It's normal.

When things don't work and we get frustrated (shaky, inconsistent public wifi and patchy mobile data connections!), it is worth pausing and remembering just how remarkable this stuff is and how fundamentally the way we communicate, live and work has changed.
